MISSOURI VALLEY, Iowa -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a public meeting for the formerly used Offutt Air Force Base, Atlas "D" Missile Site 3 on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, at the Rand Community Center in Missouri Valley, Iowa.
The meeting will begin with an open-house-style posterboard session, followed by a presentation on the status of environmental activities at Missile Site 3, a formerly used defense site located near Missouri Valley, Iowa. Missile Site 3 was used as an Atlas "D" Missile Site for the potential launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles until it was deactivated in 1964. The purpose of the environmental activities is to determine the presence and extent of contamination from Cold War missile defense activities.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representatives will provide a review of site history and investigation activities to date to include pilot study results, results from ongoing sampling activities, updated groundwater plume maps, plans for the upcoming vapor intrusion investigation and the near and long-term schedules.
The public is encouraged to attend and provide feedback about the environmental activities being conducted at the former missile site.
The meeting will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Rand Community Center, located at 100 South 4th Street in Missouri Valley, Iowa. The poster session will take place from 6:30-7 p.m. followed by a presentation from 7-8 p.m.
