USACE Omaha District
Published Oct. 29, 2021

The Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee (MRRIC) will hold a plenary session November 16-18 in Omaha, Nebraska.

The meeting will be at the Embassy Suites Hotel beginning at 8 a.m., Tuesday, November 16, and concluding at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, November 18. The draft MRRIC meeting agenda can be found online at https://www.nwo.usace.army.mil/mrrp/mrric/. MRRIC has not met since November 2019 due to the COVID pandemic.

The plenary sessions of this meeting are open to members of the public who will have an opportunity during each daily session to address the committee and the lead federal agencies—the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  While every effort will be made to accommodate interested members of the public, space will be limited to 50 guests.  If interested in attending the meeting, please email mrric@usace.army.mil no later than Nov. 10, 2021 so we can confirm space availability. Face coverings will be required.

“The priority for this meeting is to seek consensus on recommendations for the Missouri River Recovery Program, including that its budget support the science and management actions needed for compliance with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2018 Biological Opinion”, said Gail Bingham, Committee Chair, MRRIC.

“The committee also will learn about results from the summer field season, including monitoring information about the status of the Northern Great Plains Piping Plover and the Pallid Sturgeon,” Bingham added.

Congress authorized MRRIC in Section 5018 of the 2007 Water Resources Development Act. In July 2008, the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, John Paul Woodley, signed the Implementation Guidance for Section 5018 of WRDA 2007, thus approving the Charter for MRRIC and establishing the Committee.

MRRIC is a 70-member committee comprised of stakeholders and representatives of tribal, state and federal governments throughout the Missouri River Basin. This committee provides recommendations to federal agencies on the current and future activities of the MRRP. The committee makes its substantive recommendations by consensus. The committee meets regularly at various locations throughout the Missouri River Basin.
