Pipestem Dam & Lake

Located north of Jamestown, North Dakota on Pipestem Creek, Pipestem Dam was constructed for flood damage reduction, fish and wildlife enhancement, and recreation. Construction of the dam began in June 1971, and was completed in 1973. The dam measures approximately 4,000 feet in length, with a maximum height of 107.5 feet from the stream bed to the top of the dam.

Pipestem Lake is 5.5 miles long and has a maximum depth of 30 feet. The lake drains an approximate 594 square mile area, and has a multipurpose storage capacity of 8,944 acre-feet

Parkhurst is the primary camping area at Pipestem Lake. Activities enjoyed there include picnicking, boating, camping, fishing, wildlife viewing, and photography. The public use area located immediately downstream from the dam has picnic shelters and fireplaces. Other areas offer a rifle range, and allow boating, fishing, and hunting.
