The District Engineer is considering a request from the Pembina County Water Resource District to construct a new drain identified as Pembina County Drain 82. The 24,400 linear foot project is located three miles east of Cavalier on the west side of Highway 18 and is centered on Latitude 48.814052° North, Longitude -97.5580316° West in Pembina County. The new drain will carry flow from a tributary through the new ditch and outlet into a tributary of the Tongue River. Approximately 1.06 acres of wetlands are located within the footprint of the new drain and an additional 4.31 acres may be affected by the drain. The project is proposed to alleviate flooding of infrastructure and farmland. Excavated materials will be used in the reconstruction of Highway 18. Wetlands are expected to establish in the drain bottom, which would result in approximately 6.2 acres of new wetlands created.
