Draft EIS and public meetings scheduled for Lower Yellowstone Intake Diversion Dam Fish Passage Project in MT

OMAHA, NE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation have made available the draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Lower Yellowstone Intake Diversion Dam Fish Passage Project and have scheduled two public meetings in June to solicit comments on the draft EIS. The draft EIS analyzes the potential effects associated with the proposed action to improve fish passage for pallid sturgeon and other native fish at the Intake Diversion Dam, continue the viable and effective operation of the Lower Yellowstone Project, and contribute to ecosystem restoration.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation will provide a presentation of the draft EIS and accept comments at the public meetings. The meetings will be held:

Tuesday, June 28, 2016
5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Richland County Fair Event Center
5th St. SW, Sidney, MT

Wednesday, June 29, 2016
5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Dawson County High School Auditorium
900 N. Merrill Avenue, Glendive, MT

The doors will open for registration at 5:30 p.m. Each meeting will begin with a formal presentation at 6:00 p.m. to provide the public with information developed during the preparation of the draft EIS, impacts to the environment, fiscal impacts and regulatory requirements. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for public comment at the meeting.

The public is encouraged to provide comments on the draft EIS at the meeting or by mail to: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District, Attn: CENWO-PM-AA; 1616 Capitol Avenue, Omaha, Nebraska 68102 or emailed to cenwo-planning@usace.army.mil

Comments must be postmarked or received by July 18, 2016.

Both meeting facilities are accessible to people with disabilities. Individuals needing special assistance to attend or participate should contact Tiffany Vanosdall no later than one week before the public meetings.

The public meeting dates or locations may change based on inclement weather or exceptional circumstances. If the meeting date or location is changed, USACE and Reclamation will issue a press release and post it on the web at:  www.usbr.gov/gp/mtao/loweryellowstone and www.nwo.usace.army.mil to announce the updated meeting details.
