Permit decisions scheduled for 2016 on two Colorado Front Range Water resource projects

Permit decisions for Denver Water’s Moffat Collection System Project, and the Municipal Subdistrict of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District’s Windy Gap Firming Project have been rescheduled for release in 2016. Both projects propose to divert water from the upper Colorado River to the Colorado Front Range. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Section 404 Clean Water Act permit decisions were originally scheduled for release in late 2015, but coordination with other Federal, Tribal, State, and local agencies is on-going for these complex water supply proposals. Construction contract for VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System Hospital awarded

A $570 million fixed price-incentive contract was awarded today to Kiewit-Turner, A Joint Venture, to continue construction of the Veterans Affairs Eastern Colorado Health Care System Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. The project's estimated completion will be in 2018. “We are moving forward in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Kiewit-Turner to deliver a quality project that meets the needs of our Veterans while also honoring our fiscal responsibilities to U. Crest Road, the road that crosses the Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, S.D., will be closed 7 a.m. Monday, November 2 through 7 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2015 This closure will include nighttime hours. The public is asked to plan on an alternate route of travel during this time. [Read More]

Contract awarded for adaptive management at Sandy Point Bend chute complex

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Omaha District has awarded a $577,000 contract to Western Contracting of Sioux City, Iowa for adaptive management at the Sandy Point Bend chute complex in Harrison County, Iowa. Work will begin in late October with completion expected by the end of December 2015. [Read More]

Bear Creek Reservoir to be lowered for inspection and repair

Bear Creek Reservoir near Lakewood, Colorado, will be lowered 5 feet from the normal operating pool elevation of 5,558 feet to allow for inspection and repair work at Bear Creek Dam. Starting Friday, October 23, releases will be around 50 cubic feet per second (cfs) which fall within channel capacity and are significantly less than the maximum summer release of 500 cfs. Road work at Downstream Campground Area at Garrison Dam

Road work near the Downstream Campground Area located at the Garrison Dam from October 5th through October 30 will halt bow hunting in loops 1 through 3 from October 15. Bow hunting is typically allowed in the Downstream Campground loops 1-3. From October 15, bow hunting will NOT be allowed while the area is closed for road work. Camping open for the 2016 camping season starting May 15, 2016 through September 15, 2016. Contract awarded for repairs to shallow water habitat at Fawn Island

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Omaha District has awarded a contract for $1.17 million to Newt Marine Service of Dubuque, Iowa for repairs to shallow water habitat at Fawn Island in Harrison County, Iowa. Work will begin in October with completion expected by April 2016. [Read More]

Draft EIS for NDOR proposed Nebraska Highway 12 project released

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Nebraska Department of Roads’ proposed Nebraska Highway12 project is now available for public review. The project, coordinated by the Nebraska Department of Roads seeks authorization to place fill in waters of the United States in connection with the proposed highway project. NDOR submitted a permit application on September 11, 2015 to place fill material east and west of the Village of Niobrara, Nebraska. [Read More]
