  • Big Bend campgrounds opening Thursday

    Campgrounds and boat ramps operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Big Bend Project, South Dakota, will open Thursday after being closed to protect against the further spread of COVID-19; this will include Left Tailrace Campground. 
  • Corps of Engineers announces closure of boat ramps near Big Bend Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the Crow Creek Sioux and Lower Brule Sioux tribes are closing the boat ramps near Big Bend Dam, near Fort Thompson, South Dakota, effective Friday.
  • Corps closes visitor centers, suspends tours

    Due to health and safety precautions regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus), all U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Omaha District Visitor Centers will be closed and all public group tours and events and have been cancelled until further notice.
  • Left Tailrace Campground to reopen

    After closing in May due to high water, the Left Tailrace Campground at Big Bend Project, Fort Thompson, South Dakota,  will reopen on Thursday, June 27th. 
  • Left Tailrace Campground closing due to elevated pools at Lake Francis Case

    The Left Tailrace Campground on Lake Francis Case at Big Bend Dam is closing due to rising pool levels.
  • Big Bend releases to switch to spillway

    Due to scheduled upgrades to the raw water supply system at the Big Bend power plant, water releases will be switched over to the spillway May 7-10.
  • Big Bend right tailrace boat ramp closed

    The right tailrace boat ramp at Big Bend Dam, South Dakota, is closed due to high water.
  • USACE seeks comments on Big Bend Dam-Lake Sharpe Project Master Plan, Environmental Assessment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on the draft revision of the Big Bend Dam and Lake Sharpe Project’s Master Plan and its associated Environmental Assessment through Feb. 15, 2019, in conjunction with a public scoping meeting Jan. 24.
  • Public scoping meeting scheduled for Big Bend Master Plan

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public scoping meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Big Bend Project Office, 33573 N Shore Road, Fort Thompson, South Dakota 57325 to gather input on the development of the Big Bend Master plan and the associated Environmental Assessment. Comments must be postmarked or received by March 13, 2017.
  • Changes coming to camping at USACE campsites in South Dakota

    Fees changes are coming to campsites operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at several locations in South Dakota including Lake Sharpe at Big Bend Dam, Cold Brook Lake and Dam, and Cottonwood Springs Lake and Dam. Changes occurring at Oahe Dam and Lake will only be to campsites in North Dakota.
