Lake Sakakawea Campgrounds 2017 Changes

RIVERDALE, ND – Reservations are now open for campsites at Lake Sakakawea. There are several changes for the 2017 recreation camping season, but prices remain the same.

Downstream Campground loops 1 and 2 open May 15 to September 15.  Loop 1 will remain first come-first serve, while loop 2 will be available for reservation. Loops 3 and 4 open May 26 to September 4.  Loop 3 will be available for reservation, while loop 4 will be available on a first come-first serve basis.

East Totten Trail Campground Walleye Loop (electric sites) open May 15 to September 15.  The Pike Loop (primitive sites) open May 26 to September 4.  These campsites must be reserved through Reserve America.  Checkout is noon.

Wolf Creek Campground West End (sites 51-67) open May 15 to September 15. The East End (sites 1-50) of Wolf Creek will open May 26 to September 4.  Campsites must be reserved through Reserve America.  Checkout is noon. Group camping is not permitted at Wolf Creek.

Reservations for sites within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds must be made through Reserve America, either online at Recreation.gov, or by calling the toll free reservation line at 1-877-444-6777. Same day reservations will be available by calling the toll free number. Cash and checks will no longer be accepted at East Totten Trail or Wolf Creek Campgrounds.

“Visitors should make reservations before arriving at the campground, providing there are spaces available. Please book same day reservations either online or by calling before traveling to the campgrounds,” said Nathan Busche, USACE Natural Resources Specialist. 

Visitors who call the toll free number to make a same day reservation will be given a reservation number; this number is needed to complete the registration card that visitors need to display at their campsite marker.

Camping fees will remain unchanged from the 2016 camping season.

Continuing in 2017, visitors to USACE recreation projects will be able to purchase or obtain the following interagency recreation passes -- Interagency Senior Pass and the Interagency Access Pass. Pass-holders receive a 50 percent discount on campsites at USACE-managed campgrounds.

America the Beautiful passes are available online through the U.S. Geological Survey, or by calling 1-888-275-8747, option 3. The Interagency Pass Program allows each of the federal agencies to retain and reinvest revenues collected from the sale of passes at the project level. USACE plans to reinvest its revenues at the projects where the fees are collected. These passes will be available at the Lake Sakakawea Downstream Campground 15 May thru 15 September.USACE is the nation’s largest federal provider of outdoor recreation, managing more than 400 lake and river projects in 43 states and hosting more than 370 million visits per year. With 90 percent of these recreation areas within 50 miles of metropolitan areas they provide a diverse range of outdoor activities close to home and to people of all ages.
